Growing Apostasy in Christendom

The Gospel of Jesus Christ took off from Jerusalem at the Day of Pentecost. Since then, millions of people have been impacted positively by it and their lives transformed in the power of the Holy Spirit. However, there are things happening in Christendom right now that point to the rise of an apostate church. When the church was at its ascendency, the Bible was honoured as the Word of God and believers upheld the tenets of the Kingdom. Somewhere along the line, most of them became over-familiar with the word of God, while so-called Christian institutions replaced the Holy Spirit with philosophical musings and interpretation of Scriptures. Now, the expert theologians dissect the Bible and give their views on what they know little or nothing about.

It is instructive to note that Jesus Christ sent a Person to build His Church. That is none other than the Holy Spirit. What has the church done with Him? The Holy Spirit has been relegated to the background or ignored totally by some denominations. The latter group has the effrontery to call Jesus Christ a liar by dismissing what He said in Mark 16:17-18: “And these signs will accompany those who believe: In My name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not harm them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will be made well”. Where exactly did they get the idea that the Holy Spirit returned to heaven after the day of Pentecost? Jesus said expressly in John 14:16, “And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever”.

 Is it any wonder that the church is polluted with doctrines of demons? It is both a physical and spiritual law that nature abhors a vacuum. If the Holy Spirit is rejected by any denomination, something else must take His place. That is why organised church or what I refer to as ‘Babylon’ is now propagating heresies with gusto. Is it normal for a person who identifies as a disciple of Jesus Christ to call Him a liar? We are increasingly witnessing such denials among so-called Christians. Currently, many pastors deny the virgin birth of Christ and His resurrection, while others proclaim that all religions lead to the Father, contrary to what Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the way and the truth, and the life: no one cometh unto the Father, but by Me”. The gullibility of these poor souls is unnerving. How can Jesus be their ‘Lord and Saviour’ and be a liar at the same time?

The net result of the fake gospel is the growing apostasy in the visible church. In fact, it is difficult right now to tell the difference between unbelievers and supposed Christians. This has nothing to do with physical appearance. The fake believers have one thing in common- they have no respect for the word of God nor yield to the leading of the Holy Spirit. How can you claim to be a follower of Jesus Christ and hate His word? He said in John 12:48, “Whoever rejects Me and refuses to accept My teachings, has one who judges him; the very word that I spoke will judge and condemn him on the last day”. This is echoed in 1John 5:7, “Three things bear witness in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit”.

It is concerning that billions of people across the world have been deceived into accepting doctrines of demons. Some of them refuse to read the Bible or follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. They have made their pastors the mediator between them and God. Yet, 1 Timothy 2:5 asserts “For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men- the man Christ Jesus”. It pains my heart that supposed Christians would choose their pastors’ interpretation of Scriptures above the pure word of God. I ask such people, “Did your pastor die for you”? In my younger years as a believer, the Holy Spirit gave me a Scripture that cured me of idolatrous relationship with ‘men of God’. It is Jeremiah 17:5, “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who depends on flesh for his strength and whose heart turns away from the LORD”.

You need to repent today and turn to the living God if you are among those leaning on the wisdom of your pastor, general overseer, or whatever title your church leader adopts. Remember that everyone will answer his own name on judgment day. 2 Corinthians 5:10 declares that “we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each may receive recompense for what has been done in the body, whether good or evil”. After repenting of your idolatry, make the word of God the standard for your life and yield to the leading of the Holy Spirit. This is the sure proof strategy to avoid falling prey to false teachers and agents of satan who parade as angels of light. May the LORD God of Hosts empower you to be the light of the world and the salt of the earth in Jesus name. Amen.
