How Liberal Bible Institutions Promote Apostasy: A recent pronouncement by Pope Francis in which he authorised Roman Catholic priests to bless same sex marriage has brought to the fore the level of apostasy in institutional churches. We understand from Scripture that things would get worse in Christendom as satan and his agents prepare for the revelation of the anti-Christ man.

The apostasy in organised churches has its root in the philosophical leanings of many Bible Schools and Seminaries. In fact, many of these institutions do not accept the Bible as the word of God. While some of them are more charitable by consenting that it was inspired by God, they nonetheless argue that the 66 books should be treated within the cultural context in which they were written.

For instance, one of the courses offered by the Department for Continuing Education, University of Oxford, titled, Introduction to Biblical Studies gives us an idea of what liberals think of the word of God. An overview of the course content indicated that the studies would focus on the background of the Bible, with emphasis on its cultural, literary and religious contexts. By emphasising context, the liberal professors could say for instance that homosexuality is no longer a sin because it is now acceptable by many societies. That is exactly why the Pope has come out to endorse it on behalf of the Catholic Church!

        There are also liberal minded folks who argue against making the history of the Jews a lynchpin for universal faith. The Catholic Church is at the heart of this argument as it believes that much of the Old Testament, especially the book of Genesis is fiction or at the most, Jewish myth. The departure from Biblical truth has spread to the Protestant fold as well, with many Pentecostal and orthodox ministers coming out with spurious and weird interpretations of Scriptures.

According to Wikipedia, many pastors in the reformed or liberal church movement even reject the virgin birth of Christ! The sad thing is that these ministers preach the gospel and have large followership. How can one openly reject the virgin birth, which is at the heart of Jesus’ atoning work on the cross and still preach the gospel? If Jesus Christ was not born of a virgin as promised by God in Isaiah 7:14, how could He have atoned for our sins as the spotless lamb of God?

         The Baptist Church appears to be the centre of apostasy as many of its ministers have openly stood against Biblical truths. Some of them do not accept that Jesus Christ resurrected bodily, while others promote the Cessationism, lie that operations of the Holy Spirit ended with the early church. This implies that Peter lied when he told believing Jews that the gift of the Holy Spirit is for them, their children and as many as the Lord would call (Acts 2:39). It also means that God lied when He promised to pour out His Spirit on all flesh in the last days (Joel 2:28).

          For genuine believers, these things really point to the fact that the end is near. We are enjoined by Paul the apostle in 2 Corinthians 2:11 not to be ignorant of the devices of the devil. Satan is the worst trickster in the universe and that is his main strength in his battle against the church of Jesus Christ. The only weapon against the devil and his tricks/lies is the word of God. Any Christian who chooses to use human ideas and philosophies to filter God’s word is doomed eternally. 2 Thessalonians 2:10-12 is the most fearful Scripture in the entire Bible. Anyone who desires to escape the deception of satan and his minion should memorise this Scripture and engrave it in his or her heart. It says, “….because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them a strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: that they might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.”
