This month’s potpourri segment focuses on forgiveness. This is an important concept in our relationship with God and with each other. Someone pointed out that the cross of Christ has both vertical and horizontal components. The vertical refers to our relationship with God, while the horizontal symbolises our interactions with other humans. In Mathew 22:39, Jesus Christ summarised the 10 Commandments in one sentence – love God and your neighbour as yourself! What does love have to do with forgiveness? Everything! 1 Peter 4:8 states, “And above all things have fervent love for one another, for love will cover a multitude of sin.” More than this, God Himself commands us to forgive one another. To show how seriously He takes forgiveness, Jesus said in Mathew 6:5, “But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father in heaven forgive you your offences.” May the compilation minister to you.
