Profile of Modern/Progressive “God”: Recently, I had an encounter with a supposed Christian on YouTube after I denounced the heresies of his idol, Gavin Ortlund, a progressive theologian/pastor. The name of Ortlund came up in an interview featuring Megan Basham, author of Shepherds for Sale. The Christian in question accused Basham of vilifying Ortlund by identifying him as one of the Shepherds that have compromised their faith by aligning with God-hating liberals in America.

Reacting to the discourse, I pointed out to this “Christian” that Ortlund has in fact denied his faith by tampering with the written word of God. I then explained to him that his “hero” peddles falsehood that the flood mentioned in Genesis 6, was a regional event, and not global as Scripture affirms.

 I expected him to prove me wrong by insisting that Ortlund did not make such a statement. Instead, he doubled down on the heresy by elevating science over the immutable word of God. He said Ortlund was right in his interpretation of Scripture, based on scientific discoveries. This person argued that revelations from science have made certain Biblical narratives obsolete, and that Christians should reassess their trust in the Holy Book in the light of what science has unveiled.

His claims weren’t shocking in the least, because I have come across his ilk on various social media platforms. They have effectively denied their faith and created a new “God” for themselves in line with their progressive leanings. Based on the heretical posturing of the misguided and deluded folks, we deemed it fit to present a profile of their modern/progressive “God.” Of course, this is not the God of the Holy Bible and we will make every effort to highlight the differences by stating Scriptures that amplify their heresies.

Before we delve into the core of this write-up, it is important to explain the concept of progressive Christianity. It is the modern version of the Christian faith, which draws its strength from the strange argument that the Holy Bible is not the Word of God. According to progressives, the Bible is a human book, which contains the word of God in certain chapters.

In progressive churches, personal experiences, feelings, and opinions are valued above the objective truth of the Bible. In such gatherings, you could hear phrases like, “That Bible verse doesn’t resonate with me,” “I thought homosexuality was sin until I met and befriended some gay people,” “I just can’t believe Jesus would send good people to hell.”

 Another significant feature of progressive Christianity is the tendency among its proponents to subject essential Christian doctrines to their own interpretation. For instance, they often re-define and re-interpret the Bible on hot-button issues like homosexuality and abortion, as well as the virgin birth of Christ and His resurrection.

Thus, some of them make comments like, “The resurrection of Jesus doesn’t have to be factual to speak truth,” “The church’s historic position on sexuality is archaic and needs to be updated within a modern framework,” “The idea of literal hell is offensive to non-Christians and needs to be re-interpreted.” Now that you know what the progressive crowd stands for, let us present to you the profile of their “God.”

Profile of Modern/Progressive God

• This usurper is a “God of love”, and does not care about what happens to the human soul since He accepts everything we do and judges no man for their sins. He obviously does not agree with the God of the Bible on eternal judgement, nor does he agree that a soul that sins deserves to die (Ezekiel 18:20).
• The modern “God” is not omniscient (all knowing), hence he has mistakenly created many people in the wrong bodies! Women in men bodies, and men in women bodies. This is why progressive “Christians” endorse gender reassignment to correct the mistake of their foolish “God.” On the other hand, the God of the Holy Bible clearly states that there are only two genders, males and females (Genesis 5:2; Mark 10:6; Matthew 19:4).
• The progressive “God” is not omnipotent (all powerful); therefore, he does not deserve any reverence. The God of the Bible is so powerful and feared that even angels veil their faces in His presence Isaiah 6:2). This is the reason progressive “Christians” preach against the fear of God, twisting 1 John 4:18 to suit their pagan minds. The phrase “perfect love drives out fear” does not refer to the fear of God. It actually aligns with 2 Timothy 1:7, “God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of love, power and a sound mind.” “The fear of the LORD is clean and endures for ever” (Psalm 19:9). “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom” (Proverbs 19:10).
• The progressive “God” does not accept the fact that humans were created with a free will, and are therefore moral agents that are accountable for their sins ( Genesis 2:17; Deuteronomy 30:19).
• Mr. Modern “God” wants humans to do anything they can to be happy; in essence, they do not need to abide by instructions that can spoil their fun (Psalm 19:7-10)
• The progressive “God” accepts all religions; hence, Jesus declaration that He is the only way to the Father is false (John 14:6).  
• The modern “God” does not intend to allow any human to end up in hell because his love does not accommodate that kind of punishment (Ecclesiastes 9:5; Matthew 5:22; 10:8, 13:50; 23:33; 25:1; Mark9:43; Luke 16:19-31; Romans 6:23; 1 Timothy 6:16; Revelation 20:10 etc.).
• The progressive “God” does not discipline any of his children, as they have the license to pursue their happiness and lived experiences (Proverbs 3:12; Hebrews 12:6; Revelation 3:9).
• The modern “God” wants humans, including Christians to “sin less”, and not aspire to be holy. This doctrine is popularised by some American pastors like Gary Hamrick of Cornerstone Church, Leesburg, Virginia and Mike Bickle, founder of International House of Prayer, Kansas City. It is instructive to note that Bickle was recently embroiled in a sex-related scandal. This is how effective the doctrine of sinning less is, as opposed to God’s commands for His children to be holy (Leviticus 11:45; 1 Peter 16).
• The progressive “God” promotes sexual perversion, especially homosexuality, lesbianism, same sex marriages, masturbation, pornography, paedophilia, etc. after all, he wants humans to enjoy their lives! The fact that Almighty God calls sodomy and lesbianism in particular abominations does not faze worshippers of this false God. As far as they are concerned, the God of the Bible is archaic and does not deserve worship and obedience (Isaiah 66:5; Revelation 22:15; Leviticus 18:22-23; Romans 1:21-28).
• The modern “God” does not mind the shedding of the blood of innocent babies through abortion on demand. Actually, he sees this as a progression from the sacrifice of babies to Molech (satan) in ancient days and approves of the practice wholeheartedly. The fact that the God of the Bible hates the shedding of innocent blood does not matter to the progressives, since their usurper “God” has prepared a heaven for them (Proverbs 6:16-19; Deuteronomy 19:10; Isaiah 59:7; Jeremiah 22:17; Psalm 106:38).

We have not written this piece to entertain anyone. You owe it to yourself to seek the truth and embrace it. Remember that no man will defend you when you stand before God in judgement. You may pooh-pooh at the idea of eternal damnation but it does not change a thing. God’s word is sacrosanct and immutable. You will be judged for the things you did with your body. You are not going to stand before the usurper, the “God” of progressive Christians.

Your Judge will be the Son of the living God; the Alpha and Omega, the One who holds the key of life and hell (Revelation 1:18). We implore you to retrace your steps if you have allowed yourself to be deceived by charlatans like Ortlund, who are making efforts to populate hell on behalf of their master, satan. Repentance is key to your deliverance from these delusions. You must do it today. NOW is the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2).
